Over 2 feet of snow have crippled the Elizabeth Township area over the past several days. The volunteers have been extremely busy responding to utility hazards, motorists involved in crashes and medical emergencies in addition to assist utility companies clear hazards to restore utilities to the residents.
As a reminder residents without power should NOT utilize propane/gas/diesel generators to provide electricity. Generators and alternative heating sources such as gas stoves should be avoided because of Carbon Monoxide hazards. Please remember that Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless deadly gas which provides symptoms of the common flu.
For your protection and safety the Elizabeth Township Emergency Management has established a Warming Shelter at the Elizabeth Forward High School located at 1000 Weigles Hill Road, Elizabeth, PA 15037. This shelter will provide 24/7 climate controlled environments, warm meals and a place to stay for you and your family to stay.
Allegheny County Emergency Services & 9-1-1
Call volumes to Allegheny County 9-1-1 remain high. Residents should only call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.
Residents should report power outages directly to their power companies. Non-emergency calls and questions, such as requests for snow removal and plowing, should be directed to the municipalities. Please do not call 9-1-1 for non-emergency issues.
